EASTWOOD College - First School in the Middle East to Partner Up With Google

December 9, 2009

Dear Parents, Faculty, and Students

Eastwood College partners up with Google to allow all its dedicated teachers and administrators and all High School students to use Google's set of hosted and customizable communication solutions as part of a core IT service offering. This will take place across the school’s two existing campuses in Mansourieh el Metn and Kafarshima.

Google is offering services, which include configured email to manage teacher and student email accounts, as well as Google Calendar and Google Talk. The new system brings many benefits to Eastwood staff and students, including indexed email search, full document sharing, tagging capabilities for tracking emails, enhanced spam filtering, calendaring and scheduling, video conferencing and an extraordinary seven-gigabyte quota per member for storage.

In addition, teachers may create custom-built websites for their courses, which will improve access to information for teachers and students. With the new Google applications, curriculum may be easily integrated resulting in deeper student understanding and learning of discipline areas. Students may create portfolio websites to showcase their schoolwork, resumes, and share information about themselves with universities, employers, and everyone they see fit.

All of the school community in our two campuses will use technology as an efficient way to communicate and learn.

Eastwood College is the FIRST educational institution in the entire Middle East region to implement this new technology.

"Google Apps will help us communicate with our students, faculty and administration more easily and efficiently than ever before, while relieving our IT department of the traditional costs associated with email and collaboration solutions" says Michel Khoury, Eastwood College's Director of Development and Strategic Management. " "We're glad to let Google do what it does best -- provide us with great technology, so we can do what we do best -- serve our students."

Michel added," We believe that integral strategic alliances with technology leaders like Google are key to accelerating the contribution that technology can make to Eastwood College's academic enterprise. Eastwood College is at the forefront of implementing advancements in education through the implementation of technology in class room use."

Complete faculty training is already under way and the transitioning to Google's technology platform will occur on December 16th, 2009. The conversion from Eastwood College's current system has been happening over the past few weeks without any interruption to the faculty's existing eastwoodcollege.com email addresses. Student email addresses and communications platform will be implemented during the first half of January 2010.

This new relationship reflects Eastwood College's dedication to its advancement in educational programs and its ability to improve teaching methodologies while increasing overall faculty satisfaction.
